The Trends Report For the Birds

Birds, birds and more birds. We just returned from Showtime, the largest upholstery fabric market in the U.S., and there are many trends to report - deep blues, grayed neutrals and natural fibers. But the most fun trend we saw was "for the birds"!

Everywhere we turned - birds motifs from whimsical to intricately detailed decorated fabrics of all types. Constructions ranged from prints to crewels to chenille tapestries. Colors varied from brights to neutrals to high contrast black and white. At Marge Carson we are "flocking" to embrace the bird trend!

The bird trend seems to get it's wings from the desire for a lighthearted accent to home fashions. We are coming off a period of doom and gloom in the media, accentuating hard economic times. Now things are looking skyward - to the domain of birds. From the stylized tropical toucans to a realistic northern finch - there are birds for every lifestyle.

At Marge Carson we especially love this "Glam Bird". It is hand embroidered on silk taffeta and accented with a hint of metallic thread. This is a fabric we will be featuring at the October furniture market. The sparkling bird will be an elegant accent,"nesting" on pillows and chairs.

Last but not least was our special favorite - a woven tapestry called "Crazy 'Ol Bird". Whimsy and humor were "flying" at Showtime Fabric Market. No need to get your feathers ruffled - this is one trend that is NOT for the birds!
