HIGH POINT, NC - In this fast-paced world, a sense of calm and quietude can be a premium. Which is precisely what Marge Carson's new Rivoli Collection affords. It takes the best of elegant living and softens it to a level of comfort that emotes contentment.
Interpreting historical designs from France and Northern Italy, but with softer carvings and simpler moldings, "Rivoli allows consumers that relaxed and unhurried atmosphere that speaks to classic design without being labeled as country," says Marge Carson owner and CEO Jim LaBarge of this striking bedroom, dining room and occasional collection. "We live in a rapidly changing world and having a visually comfortable place to relax can be a high priority for many. This collection provides that place."
"This group has widespread appeal. Its design is sure to pique the interest of the 30-somethings, as well as the most traditional customer," says Christine Rendino, who leads Marge Carson's design team. "Enhancing that allure is our new 'Heirloom Desert' finish. With a crackled and rubbed-through surface, it has the same casual feeling as the designs themselves."
The Rivoli Collection runs the gamut of impressive pieces. A magnificent 122x52-inch extension dining table, with a shaped diamond-patterned marquetry top of ash burl and walnut, is one of the highlights. Complementary designs include an impressive Italian-inspired display cabinet, with metal grills over glass to expose the interior, as well as two credenzas in a large and smaller scale. The 96-inch version echoes the table top's inlay design, giving the door fronts dramatic visual movement, while the smaller 75-inch credenza features a bowed front, reminiscent of the Lombardy region of Italy.
Two distinctive beds are also among the signature pieces of this collection. One is a magnificent poster bed, softened with an upholstered headboard framed within a classically shaped wood frame and detailed with decorative nail trim. The other is a more fully upholstered bed with diamond quilting and outlined with a softly contoured shaped wood trim; here, too, the upholstery is accented with decorative nail trim. And while they each have distinctively different looks, these beds have one thing in common: They both express the kind of tranquility this collection is all about.
What's more, Rivoli addresses everyday lifestyle needs in extraordinary ways. Options of ebonized maple and walnut marquetry, as well as inlaid shell detailing, elevate something as functional as a desk to the status of an art form. Equally artistic in its design is a serving cart crafted of hand-forged metal, wood and brass castings with two glass shelves; a third bottom shelf is offered in a cherry wood veneer or optioned with an antique mirror surface. This most practical piece is being shown in a Marge Carson's "Silver Cloud" metal leaf finish as well as a more masculine, and darker, "Aged Metal" finish to express the wide variety of "looks" achievable at Marge Carson.
While paying tribute to a rapidly changing world, Marge Carson also pays respect to classics of the past by introducing the Tao Collection. The very name, "Tao," is a Chinese spiritual philosophy for "the way" or "the path" to all things in the universe. Marge Carson finds that spirit in a simple, clean balance of form and function that, for centuries, has been deeply admired from this Far East culture.
Blending easily with both traditional and contemporary environments, this Asian inspired collection offers beautiful classic accents–from the étagère that combines a wood storage base with an upper structure of open wood members supporting three glass shelves to an altartable with decorative metal grill panel inserts within the leg supports. Even aTV cabinet supported on high tapered legs and finished in "Spice Red" with bamboo-inspired cast brass hardware expresses the variety within this collection.
"With Marge Carson's broad assortment of traditional and transitional collections, 'Tao' is an ideal 'path' to add to ourline of custom-crafted furniture," says LaBarge.
Both of these collections will be showcased in a variety of finishes and trims at the April High Point Market," he adds, "which highlights how Marge Carson can transform an item through finish, trim and hardware options to satisfy a variety of customer's needs and desires. Marge Carson is always striving to make classic designs of the highest quality and our custom-finish capability is what makes us unique."
