OCTOBER 2019, HIGH POINT, NC: Marge Carson is showcasing the sophisticated sculptured shaping of its upholstered sofas, sectionals and chairs this market. “One way we are focusing on the shaped silhouettes we’re known for is by using a simpler approach to pillowing,” said Laurie Reed, creative director. “We are reducing the amount of pillows used per frame, and going to simpler and less complex pillow arrangements,” said. “In addition to pillows, we’re looking to trims like buttons, tapes, cords and other dressmaker details to add excitement for the couture look Marge Carson is known for.” In fact, Marge Carson is adding 18 new upholstery trims this market.
While the new Marge Carson upholstery silhouettes retain their characteristic sculptural design, “the frames also have a classic style and scale that would make them fitting for many types and sizes of homes,” Reed said. New trim tapes include ombre effects sprinkled with rhinestones, pearl-encrusted tapes and diamond-studded rosettes and sequined tapes.
Complementing upholstery with the Maison Collection is in a rich palette ranging from soft plums and lavender to merlot and charcoal. “These colors work so well with Maison, especially with the tonal gray finish,” Reed said. In addition, understated patterns of Brain Coral and diamonds accent the new frames, and “heavy doses of sequins and beads are splashes of glamour throughout to add to the glitz Marge Carson is known for,” she said. Other fabrics include printed velvets of aubergine and merlot to add depth of dramatic rich color, and copper shades mixed with charcoal marry back to the rich finishes of Dark Bay and Pumice.
New Upholstery Introductions
A grand statement of shape and curves, the Giselle is an asymmetric left-and-right sofa with a high arm and low arm, sloping back and a curved Cashmere Silver plinth base. The body cloth is a metallic coral design performance fabric in shades of silver and pale plum. Pillows are quilted velvet in gray and pale lavender with a new beaded cord trim with metallic beads.
With an updated Neoclassic look and feel, the Huxley is the essence of chic elegance. A distinctive element is the skirt treatment. The skirt wraps the base of the sides and back, but the slim tapered legs on the front are exposed. In a designer detail, the nailhead wraps along the front rail base and even surrounds the top inset area of each of the four carved legs. In a couture flourish, the bolster pillows feature Lucite tassels for an unexpected sleek touch.>
Low and sleek with an Art Deco feel, the McKenna Sofa is a study in shape with convergence of shapes everywhere. The sloping, curved arms are slim at the top and widen at the front as they flair out. The bracket feet are overscaled and in a stair-step design. The body cloth is a performance fabric in a charcoal velvet with a luminescent quality, and the pillows are a printed metallic velvet.
Boxy, smart and architectural, the tight-seat Burton Chair has a Mid-Century look. The perfect frame for combinations of leather and plush chenille or velvet, Burton has slim, upholstered arms with tucked-away double rows of nailheads, a delightful tactile surprise as you sit in the chair and discover the detailed craftsmanship. Optional metal legs.
