DETAILS LIFT FASHION UPHOLSTERY
OCTOBER 2017, HIGH POINT, NC – From Fashion Week in New York and London to the Fall High Point Furniture Market, layering of textures and colors, along with unexpected details and embellishment, are distinguishing apparel and home fashion.
“The design is in the detail, and details are big this season,” said Christine Rendino, director of design for Marge Carson. “Whether it is the unexpected wood treatment on the arm of the new Eureka Sofa, or the detailed trims, buttons and metallic leathers used on the Sultan Sofa, details are creating an engaging, layered design tapestry,” she said.
At the Fall High Point Market here, Marge Carson is introducing four new sofas and two new chairs, along with 80 new fabrics. At CARSON, two new sofas, two new
In fabrics, the customary Marge Carson rich neutrals are being accented this season with “hints of citron, peacock and black,” Rendino said. “We are definitely seeing black gaining prominence in home fashion today.”
Another color trend in the spotlight is rose gold. Rose gold will be the color theme of the Marge Carson showroom foyer this market. “Rose Gold is a nice, soft way to bring the blush color into the home in a more neutral way,” said Rendino. “Today’s rose gold is what we previously saw in copper, but taking the orange out for a more subtle, neutral and livable look with a more classic feel.”
At Carson, textural neutrals are accented with chenilles and linens, all in stain-resistant Crypton fabrics, making them casual, livable and family-friendly, Rendino said.
With metallic leaf fluted legs and plush tufting on the back and curved arms, the Paloma Sofa strikes a glamorous traditional note. Paloma is shown in two colorways. The first, a gold and black story, gives a nod to the growing use of black in home fashion and has an “Old Hollywood” feel. The body fabric is black velvet, and accent pillows include Carousel Citron, an oversized dramatic damask pattern in citron gold and black, and Sultan Gold, a soft gold silk. The fluted legs are finished in gold leaf. The second fabric assortment for Paloma goes in a softer, more romantic direction with grays and pale golds, and mixes a quilted velvet body fabric with accent pillows in vegan leather and contemporary damask with shadows and highlights in gray, gold and white. The fluted legs are finished in silver leaf.
Low-slung, curvaceous and sleek, the 2-piece Aurora sofa features a shelf arm that wraps the entire silhouette, and an all-over tufted back that contrasts with the plain and sleek seat cushions. Aurora will be shown three ways: as a kidney-shaped sofa and chaise configuration, as a two-piece sofa with an oversized curved arm on either

The showstopper Sultan Chair now has a companion showstopper sofa, with the dramatic new Sultan Sofa, featuring a 55-inch high back, and plush tufting throughout the inside back and curvaceous arms. Sultan is shown two ways. The first sets the tone for the rose gold theme in the showroom foyer. The body fabric, Nationwide Rose Gold, is a textured fabric with rose gold and silver metallic threads. The body fabric is accented by a Rose Gold Leather, the velvet Avenue

The sleek and modern Aspen sofa is offered in both a 100-inch and 114-inch size. The distinct arms are in the shape of a C-clamp, with the bottom of each box-arm forming the legs of the sofa. The arm configuration creates a “floating” effect for the body of the sofa, which is raised off the floor. Aspen’s body fabric is tweed-look chenille with metallic threads called Danforth GoldDust, accented by Antarctic Tiger, a brown, black and cream animal print.
